How to Install a Stand Up Paddle Board Fin

Posted

The big day is finally here!  After countless hours of online research on all of the different types of stand up paddle boards and talking to people who have SUP boards, you have made the leap and purchased your first paddle board!

Congrats!!

You are all set to go now and rule the waves!! Except.............how does that fin go in????

We have had calls from people who have tried for hours to figure it out so we at PSP SUP Specialists thought we would write a few quick instructions in case you needed them or forgot what we told you when you bought your board.

  • Take the square metal fin plate nut and lightly screw it onto your bolt.  In our picture below you can see them on the right side of the photo.

  • Guide the nut into the receiving track by entering at the widest point (in the middle of the slide track) and guide it to the front or back of the board (depending on where the hole on your fin is)
  • Once it is in place, unscrew the bolt, removing it from the nut that is now left in place inside the slide track.
  • Your stand up paddle board fin will have a small guide bar at the front or back of the fin (depending on the manufacturer)  You can see it in the picture below at the back (left side of photo)

  • Place the fin guide bars into the receiving slot where it is the widest.

  • Slide the guide bars down and into the track
  • Position it so the hole in the fin is directly over the receiving nut in the slide track.
  • Gently screw the bolt into the receiving nut.  Don't over tighten yet as you may want to move your fin forward or backward to your desired final location.
  • Once you have placed your fin in the desired location, tighten the screw and you are all set to go!!

Please remember that the staff at PSP SUP Specialists is more than happy to explain this over the phone (or in person).  We are here to help!
